CATA’s Bold Year of Action and How You Can Support on Giving Tuesday

This year, CATA showed the true power of presence: in the fields, in the streets, in courtrooms, and everywhere immigrant workers needed protection, dignity, and support.

• We helped stop harmful proposals like 287(g) through strong community pressure.
• Supported 1,226 workers in accessing $735,000+ in federal relief.
• Recovered $850,000 in stolen wages for 100 workers.
• Reached 1,400+ farmworkers across 80 farms with rights education and supplies.
• Strengthened deportation defense through trainings, emergency plans, and community organizing.
• Expanded food justice work with culturally rooted produce, market days, 600% more Good Food Bucks usage, and youth leadership development.

Now we need you to help keep this momentum going.

This Giving Tuesday, December 2, make a donation to CATA.

Every gift helps us defend more workers, support more families, and build stronger, more just communities.

What happens when a community refuses to stay silent?

In Wicomico County, it led to a real victory against harmful ICE partnerships.

On November 4, 2025, community members and allies gathered outside the Wicomico County Government Building to oppose the 287(g) agreement—loudly and powerfully.

Together, we filled the space inside and outside the meeting room, raised our voices, and made it clear that Wicomico stands against hate, fear, and family separation.

That night, community presence created real pressure. Inside the meeting, the County Council’s own discussion showed uncertainty about how to move forward, and that disagreement kept the 287(g) agreement from advancing. It was an important moment of hope for our immigrant community.

Our work made a difference—but the fight continues. We must keep pushing for communities free from discrimination, profiling, and division.

What Does Our Community Want for 2026—and How Will We Build Power Together?

On October 19, CATA members gathered by the Delaware River to reflect on this year’s accomplishments and the challenges ahead under the Trump Administration. After six months of community conversations, we approved a strategic plan that will guide our work in the coming years.

This new roadmap focuses on:

  • Responding to the immigration crisis and supporting families facing detention and deportation

  • Expanding outreach to farms and immigrant communities, including Latino and Haitian workers

  • Growing our community garden to provide more healthy food

  • Strengthening partnerships with trusted allies

  • Deepening youth and volunteer engagement to build long-term community leadership

The work ahead is significant — but our strength comes from our people.
And there are many ways to get involved: volunteer in our gardens, canvass, train as a Workers’ Rights Ambassador, support Maryland organizing, or join advocacy efforts for worker protections and against ICE collaboration.

Together, we will continue to show up, resist injustice, and build a future where immigrant workers and their families can live with dignity and safety.

Our power is collective — and it grows when we act together.
