CATA - The Farmworker Support Committee is firmly against any rhetoric that seeks to demean, isolate, or marginalize anyone, especially immigrant communities. This type of language only serves to divide us, threatens the safety and well-being of many individuals, and goes against the values of inclusivity and respect that should be present in every society. Spreading lies to create a baseless fear of the immigrant community in order to win votes is discriminatory, shameful, racist, and wholly unacceptable.
Immigrant communities are an important part of the strength and success of our country, contributing with their talents, creativity, determination, and hard work. They are healthcare workers, educators, essential service providers, business owners, artists and are an indispensable and vital part of our food system as farmworkers and frontline food workers. Even more importantly, they are people, our coworkers, our neighbors, our friends, and our family. Their contributions help to strengthen communities and create opportunities that benefit everyone. Any narrative that disparages these individuals ignores their essential role in our shared progress and successes.
Right now, it is so important to denounce this divisive and harmful rhetoric to show that this type of speech will not earn votes, will not elicit cheers, and will not win anyone a position of power. CATA is committed to work that shows all individuals, regardless of background, are to be valued and respected. We will always support and defend the immigrant community and continue to work toward a future where everyone is celebrated for their contributions to our country.
