In 2023, our Food Justice Program (FJP) flourished, and we're thrilled to share the highlights with you. From enriching workshops to vibrant community collaborations, our journey was filled with growth, learning, and impactful moments.
πΏ Seeds of Knowledge Blossom: We began the year by expanding our knowledge through workshops on organic farming and herbalism. Our year-long youth internship sparked a passion for sustainable agriculture in high schoolers.
πΌ Celebrating Nature & Sharing Knowledge: Spring brought opportunities to connect with nature and collaborate with our community partners, fostering intergenerational connections and cultural exchanges.
π₯ From Garden to Table: Cultivating Abundance: Our community garden thrived, providing access to fresh, healthy produce through our weekly youth-led market. We also explored value-added products like jams and salsas.
π Empowering Youth Leadership & Community Collaboration: Former youth leaders took center stage, leading initiatives like a community mural and a mobile farm stand. We also celebrated milestones like electing Lali as the first youth member of the CATA Board.
π A Year of Impact: Numbers Tell a Story: In 2023, our garden nourished over 90 families and welcomed 170 visitors to workshops and events, showcasing the program's reach and significance.
πΏ Planting Seeds for the Future: A Look Ahead: Inspired by community feedback, we're planning to cultivate "weeds" like plantain and gather community input on desired crops.
π± Empowering Community Action: Join Us! To kick off the volunteer season, we invite you to join us for a Volunteer Day on Saturday, March 9th, from 9 am to 1 pm at the Bridgeton Community Garden.
