Growing Change in 2023: CATA's Impact Empowering Immigrant Communities

Looking back on 2023, We are proud of the real difference we've made in people's lives.

Empowering Immigrant Workers Through Outreach and Education

In 2023, our outreach efforts allowed us to connect with over 1,500 migrant workers across 70 locations. We assisted more than 350 workers in applying for critical financial support through the FFWR Fund. Additionally, 200+ individuals learned about their rights in 24 of our training sessions.

Nourishing Communities Through Food Justice

Our community garden harvested a whopping 45 varieties of culturally diverse produce this year! We hosted weekly farmer's markets and cultural events, feeding around 90 local families. Seeing the pride our youth interns take in growing food firsthand and distributing it to neighbors in need is just heartwarming.

Amplifying Immigrant Voices on the Airwaves
Our radio station RadioCATA has become an essential community resource, sharing vital information and empowering immigrant workers to share their voices. We now have 4 Latinx volunteer DJs hosting fantastic live shows on workers' rights and more. Broadcasting live on Facebook has allowed us to expand our reach and amplify the stories of our community.

Advocating for the Rights of Latino Immigrants
From pushing for drivers' licenses for all to unemployment benefits for undocumented workers, we've campaigned tirelessly for legislation to uphold immigrant rights in 2023. Collaborating with amazing partners, we've fought to improve access to vaccines and social services too. There's always more work to be done, but we're committed to this fight.

At the end of the day, CATA's work is about migrant workers empowerment. We strive to support our immigrant community with advocacy and direct services that help make life safer, fairer and more just. When we see the passion of our members and the change we're creating together, we know our mission matters now more than ever. ¡Sí se puede!

CATA's Impact in 2023
Migrant Workers and Allies Gather for CATA's Assembly - What's Next for 2024?

On October 8th, we celebrated CATA's Annual Assembly. Around 50 participants from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Maryland gathered at the Lutheran Church in Vineland, NJ to discuss the work CATA has done over the past year as well as proposals for future work.

We want to take this opportunity to also share with our readers what we discussed at the Assembly. Below is a brief report of the work we carried out this year.

One of the most exciting aspects of our Assembly this year was the inclusion of members from the Haitian community! The Haitian community is growing significantly in New Jersey and Salisbury, Maryland. One of the work proposals discussed and approved was to make our organization more accessible to the Haitian community - ensuring our materials are translated into Haitian Creole and that we also have interpretation at our events.

Also at the Assembly, 2 other work proposals were approved for 2024:

  • Work to eliminate discrimination in our laws against agricultural workers in New Jersey!
  • Initiate electoral education work - educating the Latino community - particularly young people - about the importance of the Latino vote!

Stand with Migrant Workers this Giving Tuesday

CATA fights for justice by educating workers about their rights, advocating for protective policies, and organizing for change. But we can't do it without you.

Your donation helps us:

  • Provide know-your-rights trainings so workers can defend themselves against wage theft, pesticide exposure, and abuse
  • Campaign for policies like overtime pay and fair minimum wage for farmworkers
  • Amplify immigrant voices and stories on our community radio station
  • Offer case management to assist workers in crisis
  • Organize communities to fight oppression and create change

We have ambitious plans this year to eliminate discriminatory wage laws and engage Latino youth in get-out-the-vote efforts. But to get there, we need resources to empower more workers to become advocates.

You can be part of this movement for equity and justice for those who feed us. Please consider making a generous Giving Tuesday donation today. Your contribution will directly support immigrant families - and build worker power.
