Strengthening Communities in 2025: CATA’s Plan for Outreach, Education, and Community Action

As we face new challenges, CATA remains committed to supporting and educating immigrant and farmworker communities across NJ, PA, and MD.

Our 2025 plan focuses on:

Know Your Rights Education – Updated materials and presentations to ensure people understand how to exercise their constitutional rights during immigration encounters.

Workers’ Rights & Assistance – Providing education and support to prevent exploitation, especially as fear and uncertainty increase in workplaces.

Monthly Community Meetings – Creating a space to stay connected, share updates, and respond to the needs of our members.

Farmworker Outreach – Visiting farms in NJ, PA, and MD starting in April to provide health and labor rights information and engage workers in conversations about housing conditions.

Food Justice & Leadership Development – Continuing our community gardens in Bridgeton, NJ, and Kennett Square, PA, and training a new cohort of Workers’ Rights Ambassadors and youth in our Food Justice Internship Program.

Collaboration with Local Organizations – Partnering with other nonprofits to expand access to resources and provide office hours for assistance.

Most importantly, CATA remains a safe space where our community can access accurate information, resources, and the dignity and respect they deserve.

Stronger Together: CATA’s Advocacy Priorities for 2025

In 2025, CATA remains committed to defending the rights of immigrants and workers. Our advocacy efforts focus on:

Heat protections for workers in NJ.
Access to driver’s licenses for all in Pennsylvania.
Expanding paid leave in NJ.
Increasing unemployment benefits for workers.
Passing the Immigrant Trust Act, ensuring access to public services without fear of deportation.

We continue to stand against unjust laws and hateful rhetoric, ensuring that immigrant communities receive the dignity and respect they deserve.

What’s Next for Food Justice in 2025?

Building on the successes and lessons of 2024, we’re gearing up for an even more impactful Food Justice Program. This program includes our Youth Food Justice Internship and many initiatives to expand community participation and deepen our impact.

Here’s a glimpse of what’s ahead in 2025:

  • Workshops using garden-fresh ingredients, like natural dyeing and value-added product creation.
  • Twice-monthly community workdays where families can volunteer together.
  • Expanded hot pepper and herb production for cooking and home remedies.
  • Key events, including Día de los Muertos celebrations and a potential Youth Internship Networking Event.
  • Nutrition programs to support SNAP, WIC, FMNP redemption, and Good Food Bucks.

In January, we held a Food Justice Committee meeting to gather insights from our community and finalize our plans for the year, ensuring we stay connected to the needs and voices of those we serve.
