"Having an internship this early in their educational careers will prepare them for the world, as cliché as it may sound.

CATA's Food Justice Program is unique in the way that we are integrating new programming to connect gaps. For example, our internship program not only brings an opportunity to low-income youth to learn about growing food and have their first job experience, but they also have the opportunity to learn about food workers in their community.

Interns can hear first-hand what working in the fields is like, interact with our adult food growers/volunteers, engage in local work and advocacy work that CATA is involved in, and share their story through our Radio Station inspiring other youth in the community." Meat and poultry processing workers are organizing for safe working conditions and a voice in their workplace. The COVID pandemic has shown us just how much these workers need stronger protections. Meat and poultry processing workers have been organizing for safe working conditions for many years and have been on the front line of demanding COVID protections.

While there is still much more to do to protect working people and support worker organizing in meat processing plants, the provisions in this Bill are a critically important step. The Bill would provide essential protections to meatpacking workers, including limiting line speed waivers and enhancing protection from retaliation for workers who speak up about conditions. 

CATA's members on the Delmarva Peninsula have long known about the appalling conditions in the meatpacking and poultry processing industry. So, we're proud to support the Protecting America's Meatpacking Workers Act of 2021, introduced by Senator Cory Booker and Representative Ro Khanna, as it seeks to address the needs of workers for safer working conditions and provide stronger protections for those who speak up.

CATA – The Farmworkers’ Support Committee seeks two part-time Community Organizers at 20 hours/week. The ideal candidate will speak excellent Spanish and English and have experience organizing for social change.

These positions will work with CATA’s team of organizers and CATA members to advance CATA’s mission of working for better working and living conditions for all immigrants.

Qualifications:
❖ Demonstrated commitment to social justice and human rights values

❖ Experience with CATA or other social justice organizations is not required, but a plus
❖ Competency in speech and writing in both English and Spanish
❖ Demonstrated ability to work independently while also being able to work as part of a team
❖ Possess a valid driver’s license and a vehicle
❖ Ability to work evenings and occasionally weekends
